Industrial processes optimization in digital marketplace context: A case study in ornamental stone sector

We are witnessing a transition to a digital economy, popularized by academics and practitioners as the Fourth Industrial Era, also designated as Industry 4.0 (I4.0). Among all the available digital technologies and aiming to optimize the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) supply chain, the Building Information Modelling (BIM) is becoming officially mandatory worldwide. Oriented to a zero-waste, zero-ecological footprint and reduced time to execute the constructions, from the BIM, emerges a new procurement model which will affect many sectors integrating this supply chain, especially those more traditional and fragmented ones, such as the Ornamental Stone sector (OS). Addressing this problem through the Service Science perspective, the objective of this research was to conceptualize an Empirical Framework (EF), to evaluate the impact of the Industry4.0 operations on the Time-to-Deliver the products in a digital marketplace context. L'associacionisme al segle XX: de les associacions culturals a la cultura de l'associació

No hi ha cap dubte que les profundes transformacions econòmiques, polítiques y socials són la característica principal de les nostres societats "occidentals" durant el segle XX. És doncs, un període de grans canvis que venen a definir el que coneguem com a modernitat i què, en la literatura especialitzada, trobem diferenciada entre una primera modernitat, la que es desenvolupa a partir de la revolució industrial, és a dir, durant tot el segle XIX i fins als anys 70 del segle XX, i una segona modernitat o globalització1 , que es produeix a partir de la revolució informàtica i que està caracteritzada, a més a més, per la celeritat dels canvis constants en aquestes societats. En aquest article ens interessa subratllar, precisament, un dels aspectes més significatius, encara que sovint soterrat, dels canvis socials ocorreguts al si de les nostres societats durant el segle passat: l'emergència de les associacions. També aquestes, com a agents històrics que són, han estat protagonistes de profunds canvis en la seua composició, els seus objectius i les accions desenvolupades al llarg del segle, a l'hora que han protagonitzat bona part dels canvis socials abans esmentats. A continuació realitzarem un breu repàs històric de les característiques principals de les diferents associacions existents al territori valencià durant el segle XX. Aquest marc general ens permet destacar el paper realitzat per un tipus d'associació específic, les culturals, entre les que s'inclou un amplia i heterogènia gamma de les mateixes, de les que tractarem de donar compte en aquest article

Progressive multiple sequence alignment with the Poisson Indel Process

Sequence alignment lies at the heart of many evolutionary and comparative genomics studies. However, the optimal alignment of multiple sequences is NP-hard, so that exact algorithms become impractical for more than a few sequences. Thus, state of the art alignment methods employ progressive heuristics, breaking the problem into a series of pairwise alignments guided by a phylogenetic tree. Changes between homologous characters are typically modelled by a continuous-time Markov substitution model. In contrast, the dynamics of insertions and deletions (indels) are not modelled explicitly, because the computation of the marginal likelihood under such models has exponential time complexity in the number of taxa. Recently, Bouchard-Côté and Jordan [PNAS (2012) 110(4):1160-1166] have introduced a modification to a classical indel model, describing indel evolution on a phylogenetic tree as a Poisson process. The model termed PIP allows to compute the joint marginal probability of a multiple sequence alignment and a tree in linear time. Here, we present an new dynamic programming algorithm to align two multiple sequence alignments by maximum likelihood in polynomial time under PIP, and apply it a in progressive algorithm. To our knowledge, this is the first progressive alignment method using a rigorous mathematical formulation of an evolutionary indel process and with polynomial time complexity

The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics provides world-class bioinformatics databases, software tools, services and training to the international life science community in academia and industry. These solutions allow life scientists to turn the exponentially growing amount of data into knowledge. Here, we provide an overview of SIB's resources and competence areas, with a strong focus on curated databases and SIB's most popular and widely used resources. In particular, SIB's Bioinformatics resource portal ExPASy features over 150 resources, including UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot, ENZYME, PROSITE, neXtProt, STRING, UniCarbKB, SugarBindDB, SwissRegulon, EPD, arrayMap, Bgee, SWISS-MODEL Repository, OMA, OrthoDB and other databases, which are briefly described in this article

La dinámica general de la política cultural en el País Valenciano: posiciones, discursos y prácticas de los actores culturales valencianos

Este artículo parte de la descripción del proceso de configuración del sistema autonó- mico cultural valenciano, en la cual se enfatizan dos componentes básicos: la estructura del mapa y las relaciones normativas y de financiación que se establecen entre los principales actores. Seguidamente, y de cara a trazar el mapa de las relaciones de comunicación e influencia entre los referidos actores culturales valencianos, nuestro trabajo se centra en el análisis a través de entrevistas en profundidad de las posiciones, discursos y prácticas que sustentan e implementan los agentes culturales, resaltando especialmente las relaciones tanto de tipo conflictivo como de tipo colaborativo. De esta manera, podemos realizar una caracterización de la dinámica general de la política cultural valenciana. Los movimientos psico-espirituales en la modernidad globalizada. Una mirada desde la ciudad de Valencia

Desde la confluencia de diversas tradiciones espirituales y conocimientos procedentes del ámbito de la ciencia y la filosofía occidental, presentamos una primera exploración sobre la emergencia de una nueva realidad psico-físico-espiritual, que hemos detectado en distintos tipos de centros en la ciudad de Valencia: Centros de Terapias Holísticas, Tiendas de Productos Alternativos, Centros de Espiritualidad Oriental, entre otros. A partir de una metodología basada en la combinación de entrevistas en profundidad y observaciones nos hemos acercado a este proceso de reencantamiento del mundo, entendido como la emergencia global de una nueva espiritualidad holística, transversal y personal, que está generando unas nuevas coordenadas de lo que puede entenderse por religioso. Progressive multiple sequence alignment with indel evolution

Background: Sequence alignment is crucial in genomics studies. However, optimal multiple sequence alignment (MSA) is NP-hard. Thus, modern MSA methods employ progressive heuristics, breaking the problem into a series of pairwise alignments guided by a phylogeny. Changes between homologous characters are typically modelled by a Markov substitution model. In contrast, the dynamics of indels are not modelled explicitly, because the computation of the marginal likelihood under such models has exponential time complexity in the number of taxa. But the failure to model indel evolution may lead to artificially short alignments due to biased indel placement, inconsistent with phylogenetic relationship. Results: Recently, the classical indel model TKF91 was modified to describe indel evolution on a phylogeny via a Poisson process, termed PIP. PIP allows to compute the joint marginal probability of an MSA and a tree in linear time. We present a new dynamic programming algorithm to align two MSAs –represented by the underlying homology paths– by full maximum likelihood under PIP in polynomial time, and apply it progressively along a guide tree. We have corroborated the correctness of our method by simulation, and compared it with competitive methods on an illustrative real dataset. Conclusions: Our MSA method is the first polynomial time progressive aligner with a rigorous mathematical formulation of indel evolution. The new method infers phylogenetically meaningful gap patterns alternative to the popular PRANK, while producing alignments of similar length. Moreover, the inferred gap patterns agree with what was predicted qualitatively by previous studies. The algorithm is implemented in a standalone C++ program

En este artículo hemos tratado de mostrar, desde una perspectiva teórica, los desarrollos y las transformaciones acaecidas, durante las últimas décadas, en dos sistemas de creencias distintos: la filosofía y, especialmente, la religión. La evolución desde la religión institucional hacia lo espiritual, y desde la filosofía académica hacia la filosofía experiencial, ha convertido al sujeto moderno en un individuo que reivindica su autonomía al tiempo que se siente integrado en una dimensión vertical y plural de la realidad que le permite la continua exploración de sentido y realización. En este proceso, veremos cómo convergen ambos sistemas de creencias y se realiza desde la experiencia directa y la comprensión. No son las ideas, sino de la propia vivencia que alumbra este cambio trascendente y revolucionario en la visión del mundo, y que nos conduce hacia lo que Ray y Anderson (2001) han llamado la Cultura Creativa

Service Innovation | A Service Blueprinting for Industry4.0

This research aims to conceptualize a service blueprinting framework to map the digital interaction and shared access to service system resources in Industry 4.0 operations. From the literature review we found that in Industry 4.0 operations, customer and provider are value co-creators, and thus, mapping the service process using such service blueprinting becomes useful to boost new dynamics generating positive and measurable innovation outcomes using either quantitative or qualitative indicators, indexed to the different stakeholders’ concerns. As recommended by the of Service Science, wealth comes from service innovation among service systems, so, it is necessary to know at the outset which resources are involved in value propositions along the service process. With this research, we have conceptualized an innovative service blueprinting framework for the digital innovation to visualize the bridge between the physical world and the virtual world in Industry 4.0 operations
